Are you bored of your life? Are you looking for some excitement or simply feel that your years are passing by without actually living? Most people live their whole lives without actually experiencing life. Starting at a young age you are constantly brain washed into thinking the key to a good life is “go to college, get a good job, and build your career.” In most countries people get caught up in the “rat race,” trying to get the perfect house, the perfect career, and have the perfect family.

Society has brain washed people into thinking this is the only way to live life. During the week people are programmed to work from 9-5, 5 days a week. You are programmed to go out on weekends or spend time with your friends. 2-3 weeks of the year you might have a holiday to Mexico or somewhere hot that is nearby. This is the mentality of majority of people who are living in North America.

When people find out I’m living in Thailand, the first question they ask is why? Why would you move there? Don’t you like living where you are? Don’t you get tired of the warm weather and miss your family and friends back home? Some people can’t comprehend why someone wouldn’t want to do the 9-5 and save up for the perfect house and dream car they always wanted.

For those of you looking for a reason to quit your job and head in a new direction in your life, Thailand is the perfect place. While it could go on forever about why you should move to Thailand, here are 5 reasons why you should move to Thailand NOW!

Reason #1 – The Weather

For people living in North America, this is probably the number one reason why they would want to move to Thailand. While you might have 3-4 months of nice summer weather back home, Thailand is warm all year round. This means you don’t have to layer up and you can wear a sleeveless whenever you want. For those of you living in places like Australia, this reason might not be compelling enough to move, because you already have warm weather most of the year.

Reason #2 – The Cost of Living

If you were to calculate your monthly expenses in Thailand compared to back home, you can’t compare the cost of living. Way back in 2007 when I was on a university exchange to Bangkok for 5 months, I was living like a king on exchange for the same monthly cost of being a poor student in Canada. The same amount I spent as a penny pinching student, I was able to do anything I wanted and eat at all the nice restaurants in Bangkok.

Reason #3 – Laid Back Culture

People in Thailand are laid back. That’s a fact. Some people call it lazy, others call it enjoying life. Use whatever word you want to describe it, but they don’t have the same urgency as westerners. This way of thinking and acting makes it easier to sit back and relax. You can go to the beach and just chill out without worry about what you are going to do next week. You can spend all of your time enjoying the moment rather than worrying about the future.

Reason #4 – The Beaches are better

I’ll be honest. I’m an island guy. I don’t like living in the big cities like Bangkok because there is just too much traffic and pollution for me. Even Chiang Mai in the north doesn’t have what I’m really looking for. I like living near the ocean where the air is clean and the breeze is fresh. Thailand has dozens of amazing islands where you can choose to set up shop.

Reason #5 – It’s all about the Muay Thai

This is the top reason most people who train muay thai want to move and live in Thailand. It is the mecca of muay thai and the number one place in the world to train. There are muay thai camps in every part of Thailand, so you don’t have to worry about choosing a location based on a camp. The island of Phuket is the most popular tourist destination, but there are good camps located everywhere, especially Bangkok.

Bonus – The Food is Amazing

I have been living in Thailand for over 5 years and I still can’t get over how much I love Thai food. I eat it every single day and do not get sick of it. Sure, I do mix in Western meals every few days, but I love Thai food. For the fraction of the cost of Western food, you can eat quality Thai food that tastes great. I know a lot of people who would want to come to Thailand just because of the food.

Best Thing I Ever Did

You would be surprised what a change of scenery can do to your life. Millions of people live their lives in misery, thinking that they are stuck in their own reality. The truth is that you can choose whatever place you want to be.

When it comes to moving to Thailand, people will come up with a million excuses as to why they can’t. Excuses like, “don’t have enough money, I can’t get time off work, I have family commitments,” are just a few of the many I’ve heard. The reality is that if you want to make it happen, you will make it happen.

Excuses or not, you can work at a minimum wage job and save up enough money to visit Thailand for a year.

The truth is, the only thing holding you back is YOU. As the famous Nike line goes, “Just do it.” Don’t think about this and that, trust me. If you make the move, you will wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.

Set a date and start making it happen. Start saving your money NOW so you can live a few years in Thailand and discover something else in your life. I’m not advocating moving to Thailand for the rest of your life, but a couple years in Thailand will definitely change your perspective on life and make you grow as a person.
