Phuket Top Team is a training camp that offers MMA, Kickboxing and Muay Thai. Since opening up in 2010, as an alternative to Tiger Muay Thai, PTT has turned into one of the strongest MMA camps in Thailand.
Every month you will see big name UFC fighters like Michael Bisping or Cyborg training at the camp, which is quite impressive considering the camp isn’t nearly as big as its competitor Tiger Muay Thai.
I’ve known a handful of people who have trained or train at this gym, and they all have positive things to say about the gym. The biggest complaint I hear is that it can be crowded in high season, which means you may run out of space if you take one of the popular Muay Thai classes.
They offer a big selection of classes to choose from, so if you are looking to learn Muay Thai, Kickboxing, or MMA, this is a good option to consider.
This gym has a reputation for restricting the number of students who can train at the gym in the high season. This means that they have enough instructors for the students that are at the gym.
If you are going to consider training at either Tiger Muay Thai or Phuket Top Team, you are better off going to Phuket Top Team. It is a much smaller gym, so the atmosphere is less commercial and more team orientated. They also offer plenty of sponsorships and training discounts to their fighters, so if you have the skill you might want to apply for one of these sponsorships.
The location of PTT is either a strength or a weakness depending on how you look at it. If you want a gym near the beach and walking distance to a lot of tourist attractions, you are out of luck. However, if you are looking to live in an isolated fitness community that has plenty of healthy eating options and cheap accommodation nearby, this is a great place to consider.
Phuket Top Team is located on the same road as Tiger Muay Thai, Dragon Muay Thai, Chokchai Muay Thai, Titan Fitness and Unit 27. Because there are so many training and fitness camps around, every shop on the street is catered to this demographic.
Expect to see healthy restaurant options, massages, training gear shops, and accommodation everywhere you go on the road. There is a very high concentration of foreigners who come from all over the world to visit these camps. So while you are in Thailand, it will feel VERY touristy while you are living there.
Everyone speaks good English, so communication is not a problem when you are here. If you want to visit any of the beaches or tourist attractions, you can take a Grab/Uber for around $10-20 depending on where you are going.
Phuket Top Team has an onsite budget and deluxe rooms that are available to students. The budget room is 6,000 baht while the deluxe room is 13,500 baht per month. They also list a number of other accommodation options that are available near and around the gym. If you are planning on going to Phuket top team you should call the gym and ask them to help you find a place to stay.
If you plan on visiting the camp you should check their website for the latest prices for their accommodation. These prices can change depending on the season, so you need to check their updated price list.
You can always just show up and find accommodation nearby on the soi Tai-ed street. I would book ahead of time if you are arriving in high season because the guest houses can get pretty full.
Phuket Top Team offers a number of different classes to suit people of all backgrounds. They offer Muay Thai, submission wrestling, BJJ, MMA, Kickboxing wrestling and strength and conditioning for people training at the camp. You can choose to do all of the classes or a select few classes that you want. There is a constant stream of MMA guys coming to this camp so you can be sure that there are always a few good guys there.
Like most training camps in Thailand, there are months when there are high-level guys training there and there are months when the skill level is not great.
Female Muay Thai Gym
One of the strengths of Phuket Top Team is the number of girl Muay Thai fighters who are at the gym. While Sinbi used to be the de facto gym for girl fighters, Phuket Top Team has taken over that role. They usually have a strong staple of 3-5 girl fighters who are sponsored by the gym.
This means if you are looking to train with some quality girl fighters, this is a good option for you.
- MMA camp that offers a huge selection
- Strong female Muay Thai fighters
- Higher Rated than Tiger Muay Thai
- Sponsored Fighters who are Training there
- Good location – surrounded by different accommodation, restaurants, and bars
- No close beaches nearby – You have to drive to Nai Harn Beach
- Not an Authentic Muay Thai Camp
- Not Muay Thai Focused – They teach MMA and Kickboxing classes
- Crowded area – Location is busy with tourist training at the different gyms
If you are looking to train MMA in Thailand the three major choices are Tiger Muay Thai, Phuket Top Team and AKA Thailand. These three gyms are by far the most popular selection for MMA fighters. While Phuket Top Team is the smallest in terms of size, the gym has a great reputation for good training and high level guys who drop by.
For anyone who doesn’t want to train at a big commercialized gym like Tiger, PTT is a great alternative. The level of training is good at Phuket Top Team because they have a number of very good trainers and fighters at the gym. In fact, one of their fighters Lerdsila is world famous for his technical abilities and evasive skills.
Whether you want to train Muay Thai or improve your MMA, Phuket Top Team is definitely a gym you should consider when you visit Thailand.
